Franchise History & Ownership
When the TNPL was launched in 2016, eight franchises were auctioned to different companies and individuals, with bids ranging between ₹3.48 crore and ₹5.21 crore. Cities like Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, and Coimbatore became home bases, giving districts their own cricketing identity.
Owners come from diverse industries — media (Dailythanthi), entertainment (Lyca Productions), technology (Take Solutions), and real estate — bringing their own flavor and ambition to the league. Several rebrands have taken place over the years: Tuti Patriots became Salem Spartans in 2019, and VB Kanchi Veerans became Nellai Royal Kings.
Every franchise owner has invested not just money, but community engagement — conducting grassroots cricket camps, talent hunts in small towns, and school-level tournaments. This has transformed TNPL teams into symbols of regional pride.
